Arcto Ab was originally founded in 2003 under the name Etha Ltd as platform for company development within alternative energy. Our biggest subsidiary, formerly known as Etha Wind, adopted the original name Etha and is today a consultancy within renewable energy. The name change reflects the fact that today Etha has broad operations in sustainable energy, not limited to wind power consulting. During the last few years, the company has also been involved in photovoltaic projects as well as battery and pumped storage projects.
On January 28, 2026, we adopted our new name Arcto, as Etha Oy (our development service provider) was integrated in the Ametalis Group. Arcto is a modification of arctos, the Greek word for bear.
Our Journey
Our first project company was EMP Projects Oy, an environmental consulting office with a focus on industrial energy saving projects. In 2005, the company was integrated into WSP Group.
Over the years, we have carried out innovative environmental projects related to biogas, wastewater, and exhaust gas cleaning. We have also undertaken some activities beyond our core competence area, of which JoinMeTube, a system for sending digital postcards, was especially interesting.
How We Work Today
Today, we utilize the skills developed over the years in energy project development. Through our subsidiary Tuulikarhu Oy, and with the support of the consulting company Etha, we develop wind power projects together with local stakeholders. While Etha carries out the practical consulting work, Tuulikarhu is responsible for financing. In a similar way, we work with PV and battery projects together with the team in Aurinkokarhu Oy.
In nearly all our projects, we work on an equal basis with partners, typically owning 20-51% of the project companies. All in all, we are now involved in projects containing nearly 100 turbines in Finland, in addition to maintaining a portfolio of small stakes in international wind developers.
Our Focus
We believe that cost-competitive, subsidy-free renewable energy will define the energy landscape of the 2030s and beyond, and is, therefore, our focus area for a long time. Thus, we are always open to discussing related project types, including batteries, PV systems, and grid stability solutions.
